Product Overview

What Is a Large Diameter Aluminum Bar?

Large diameter aluminum bars are solid, round or rectangular aluminum extrusion or forging billets produced in diameters typically exceeding 100 mm--up to 1,000 mm and beyond. They serve as the primary raw material for CNC machining centers producing precision structural components, flanges, pistons, and high-stress aerospace parts.

At Southwest Aluminium, our large diameter aluminum bars are manufactured using both extrusion (500-8,000-ton presses) and forging (630-10,000-ton lines), delivering exceptional mechanical properties, tight dimensional tolerances, and homogeneous grain structure throughout the cross-section.

Every bar is traceable from melt to delivery, with full material test reports (MTRs), chemical analysis, and mechanical test certificates provided as standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Large Diameter Aluminum Bars

What is the maximum diameter you can produce for aluminum bars?
Using our forging lines (up to 10,000 tons), we can produce aluminum bars and billets up to Ø1,000 mm in diameter. Extruded bars are available up to Ø600 mm depending on alloy and press capacity. Contact us with your specific requirements for a feasibility assessment.
What alloys are most commonly ordered for large diameter aluminum bars?
The most popular alloys are 6061-T651 (general machining, excellent machinability and corrosion resistance), 7075-T651 (aerospace and high-stress applications, highest strength), and 2024-T351 (fatigue resistance, aerospace). We also supply 6082, 5083, 7050, and 7068 depending on application requirements.
Do you provide material test reports (MTR) and third-party certifications?
Yes. Every order ships with a full material test report (MTR) covering chemical composition and mechanical properties. Third-party inspection reports from SGS, BV, or TUV are available upon request. We are ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certified.
What is the difference between extruded and forged aluminum bars?
Extruded bars are produced by forcing aluminum through a die, offering excellent dimensional consistency and surface finish, ideal for diameters up to ~600 mm. Forged bars are shaped under high compressive force, producing a refined, directional grain structure with superior fatigue strength and toughness--preferred for aerospace, military, and heavy-duty machining where structural integrity is critical.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ) and typical lead time?
MOQ varies by alloy, diameter, and temper--typically 500 kg to 2 tons for standard items. Lead times range from 15 to 45 days depending on specification and volume. We offer flexible MOQ for long-term partnership customers. Contact us for a customized quote and delivery schedule.
Can you supply custom lengths and perform value-added processing?
Yes. We offer precision sawing to custom lengths, surface turning/peeling for improved finish, anodizing, and ultrasonic testing. Our in-house CNC machining centers can perform additional processing before shipment, reducing your lead time and handling costs.
